Professor Sir Rory Collins awarded the 2022 Ron Haddock International Impact Award
UK Biobank is delighted to announce that our Principal Investigator and Chief Executive, Professor Sir Rory Collins, will be honoured with the 2022 Ron Haddock International Impact Award for his ground-breaking research into cardiovascular disease and stroke at the American Heart Association’s (AHA) National Volunteer Awards which are taking place on the 28th of June.
The purpose of The Ron Haddock International Impact Award is to recognise volunteers for outstanding contributions to the American Heart Association’s global efforts. Sir Rory Collins is being recognised for being at the forefront of ground-breaking discoveries that have revolutionised cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment and had lifesaving impacts worldwide.
Sir Rory Collins has been instrumental in the development and delivery of large, randomized clinical trials, including the ISIS (International Studies of Infarct Survival) trials into emergency treatment of heart attacks. These trials demonstrated the effectiveness of lifesaving drugs such as streptokinase, aspirin, and statins which save countless lives all around the world.
The American Heart Association has also acknowledged the transformative work of UK Biobank, which yields highly valuable insights that informed the AHA’s work. More than 30,000 researchers are using UK Biobank's data for their research. In 2021 alone, it was the basis of about 1,700 research papers..
