UK Biobank Participant Advisory Group

Please note applications are now closed for the Participant Advisory Group.

Applications open to join our Participant Advisory Group

Our participants are at the heart of everything we do, which is why we want to give you a say in how we do things here at UK Biobank.

We are setting up a Participant Advisory Group to help us develop a new strategy for involving and engaging participants in our work. The Group will:

 • find out about the role that members of the public can have in health research
 • consider what say UK Biobank participants should have in our projects and activities
 • work with us to create a new 3-year strategy by spring 2024.

Members will have the opportunity to shape and influence our work, take part in interesting discussions, and meet other UK Biobank participants.

Who can join the Participant Advisory Group?

We are looking for around 10 UK Biobank participants from across the UK of different ages, genders and ethnicities. We welcome applications from participants who have had a lot of interaction with us over the years, and those who have had very little. If you are disabled or have any special requirements, we will do everything we can to enable you to take part.

No experience of committee membership or public involvement in research is necessary.

What’s involved?

The Advisory Group is a task-oriented group that will start its work in October 2023 and finish in spring 2024. During that time we expect the Advisory Group to meet four times for at least 3 hours. Usually there will be a few documents to read before meetings and some follow-up work afterwards.

We expect to hold a mixture of in-person and online meetings. We will decide on the timing of the meetings depending on the preferences of the appointed members.

Advisory Group members will be paid £75 per 3 hour meeting. In addition, any travel and accommodation costs will be covered.

How can I apply?

Please fill in the short application form below to tell us a bit about yourself and why you would like to join the Participant Advisory Group.

Applications will be open until 5pm on Friday 29th September 2023.

We will let you know within 2 weeks if we would like to offer you a place on the Advisory Group. You will only be asked to make a commitment to become a member if you have been offered a place and when the timing and location of the meetings have been decided.
