Lay summary

What are we trying to achieve?

Lung cancer is a leading cause of death across the world. Like many illnesses, its occurrence isn't just because of one reason. Instead, a mix of factors, like smoking, lifestyle habits, stress, and even our internal body clock, can increase the risk. Our goal is to understand how these elements, alone and together, contribute to lung cancer. We're also curious if factors like gender and race influence how these risks behave. By the end of our study, we hope to have a clearer picture of what raises lung cancer risk and for whom.

Why is this study important?

While we know various things can boost the risk of lung cancer, most research looks at these factors one by one. Think of it as trying to understand a team by only looking at individual players. Sure, you'll get some information, but you won't grasp how they work together on the field. Our study aims to see the bigger picture. We'll look at how these risk factors interact with each other. By doing so, we can better predict who might develop lung cancer and perhaps find ways to prevent it or catch it early.

What will it mean for everyone?

The benefits of this study are massive. By understanding lung cancer risks better, we can:

1, Inform the public: People can make better choices if they know what might harm them.

2, Help doctors: With better risk predictions, they can screen patients more effectively.

3, Shape policies: Health leaders can design campaigns or programs that target the most significant risks.

4, Save lives: By understanding, predicting, and acting on risks, we can prevent many cases of lung cancer or catch them early when they're more treatable.

In short, our research won't just stay in the lab. It'll make its way into homes, clinics, and communities, ensuring a healthier future for all.
