Generative Model on brain decoding

Principal Investigator: Professor Tianming Liu
Approved Research ID: 35698
Approval date: June 14th 2019

Lay summary

The vast majority of analytical techniques currently applied to functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) data yields brain activation maps which helps people understanding how brains work. The brain activation maps differ when people doing different tasks, thus we may know about the function relates to a specific map. The brain activation maps also differ from people to people, thus we may know about the region and function relates to different brain disorders. The model will be applied to both the healthy and patients, yielding a better understanding of the following brain disorders from a fMRI perspective: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD), schizophrenia(SZ), Autism, Alzheimer's disease(AD), Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI), Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The healthy status of patients and normal controls will be identified through through both self-report and medical records data.
